So, what does a woman do when she’s recovering from cancer and then loses her husband to cancer within six weeks? She goes to Haiti and writes a book about her experiences, of course! Wouldn’t you? That’s precisely what Kim Sorrelle did.
In this episode of Butterfly Kisses podcast, I talk with Kim about her journey in Haiti and her book Love Is. She wanted to know what love was about by dedicating an entire year to studying 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. This exploration took her to Haiti, and she shares with us in episode 37 some of her unusual experiences because she decided to take on this challenge. These experiences led her to write Love Is.
Love
is patient
is kind
does not envy
does not boast
is not proud
does not dishonor others
is not self-seeking
is not easily angered
keeps no records of wrongs
does not delight in evil
rejoices with truth
always protects
always trusts
always hopes
always perseveres.
1Corthinthains 13:4-7
One story Kim describes is about learning how Love is kind. When you are kind, you don’t expect anything in return. She knew this lesson through a loving grandmother she met in Haiti who had just lost her daughter but carried her newborn grandson miles to the only doctor for help. He had to be transported by air for medical assistance, and the grandmother hesitated to go because she didn’t have any shoes. Kim gave the grandmother the sandals off her feet, not expecting anything in return or even her shoes back because she knew the kind, loving thing to do was help this grandmother be with her grandson. Love is kind!
Your life changes with significant events and sometimes without warning—cancer, the death of your spouse, and how you choose to perceive it matters! Sometimes you start a podcast or write a book or go to Haiti. But the important thing is to be present in your life and never give up on Love.
Remember—Love is…
