How can we as individuals make a difference in a world that doesn’t make sense? How can we collectively move past the negativity and violence that seems to plague our world? In today’s episode of Butterfly Kisses podcast, I explore these questions with Barry Nicolaou.
Barry is the author of “The 11 Master Secrets to Business Success and Personal Fulfillment” and fiercely advocates chasing down life’s sought-after moments. He is a motivational speaker and helps people deconstruct the untapped power of subconscious thought and the science of creative visualization.
Our discussion centered around how we as individuals can effect change. One is by “controlling our controllables,” said Barry.
How do we do that? It starts with looking at the bigger picture and what we can control. Our thoughts and actions about a situation are what we can control. It’s what we choose that affects about 80% of the outcome.
“And unfortunately, fear speaks louder than love,” said Barry.
If all we focus on is the fear, then that’s all that we will see—more fear. But what people aren’t talking about are the kidney transplants that happened yesterday, the babies who were born, or the millions of other blessings that continue to happen right before us. We get fixated on a few critical events in the world and become blinded to the beauty silently waving its white flag of love.
We cultivate change by being a beacon of light for others. We create love by doing a podcast or helping a neighbor in need. We become that which we want to see in the world. But when we stop doing those things, that’s when the darkness steps in. We need to show others that love is possible by continuing to live our lives fearlessly with love and forgiveness, not only for others but also for ourselves.
We create our realities by our thoughts and our actions. In this episode, Barry walks us through the six steps to embracing a new reality.

- Define Your Reality—How will you know when you’ll be happy? Answer this question, and you have your desire.
- Feel the Possibility—Is your desire a current reality in the world somewhere?
- Catch the Feelings—Feel the actual reality you want to catch!
- Release Doubt and Toxicity—Remember the subconscious will use the dominant of the two ideas.
- Release the Timing—Don’t strangle the timeframe thinking it has to manifest when you want it!
- Embrace Your New Reality—You’ve got it! Now, remember it’s not about achieving what you desire; it’s about knowing you can shape the clay in other areas of life.
When we allow outside circumstances to dictate how we feel and what we should do next, we live in fear. But when we allow ourselves to feel the deep feelings of hurt and sadness for the atrocities in the world and truly grieve, we can then release those feelings and come back to love. Our lives can then become an example for others—by being what we want to see in the world. It all comes back to love.
How do we want to see our world? We create the reality we see by the thoughts we choose and our actions.
How will you make a change in your reality today? Will you choose to only see the fear and violence in the world before you? Or will you choose to see love that can speak louder than fear ever could—if we allow it!
Remember, we are the creators of our realities. Choose love!
